toodles all,

Chelsea Vintage Class at DD Studios

just a quick post to let you know that i’m set up to teach again at donna downey studios. It’s the chelsea vintage mini that’s just way too cool.

it starts off with 6 regular #10 letter-sized envelope and we are rocking and rolling from there, cutting ‘n fold ‘n gluing ‘n embellishing to our hearts content.

then you get to fill this puppy with loads of photos and journaling and do-dads.

the original i made for a friend as a christmas gift. I showed it to her and let her touch it and caress it then promptly put it back in my bag to take to the shop as a sample.

she loved it…btw.

so call the shop and book your spot for march 24th….i promise not to make you laugh too, too much while we play!

Toodles all,

First Bit of News

These last few months have been very busy for me. An art group I belong to has a gallery showing coming up in June and I’ve been busy making some new pieces and working on our most recent group challenge. This one is big and oh so very cool even if I say so myself.

I’m so excited! This will be my first gallery show and you betcha I’m darned excited. We are each busy finishing up loose ends and getting the news out.

If you are in the area and would like to attend (which I just know you’re aching to do). The show  entitled “The Art of Cloth” will hang at the Lincoln Cultural Center in Lincolnton, NC (403 E Main Street), Our pieces will hang from June 3rd to July 2nd.

Opening repception is  June 12th at 6:30 p.m. We’d love to have you join us then.

Also, I have finished my first newsletter and will be sending that out within the next few days. If you are not on my email list and would like to join and have a hunkering to get my newsletter send me an email at: grace (at) redbarn-studio (dot) com. (sorry, this is not a link).

Do you know the reason most people are writing their emails like this now?. If it’s written as a link then lovely spammers, (who BTW only have our best interest at heart…yeh right!) send out feelers to store your email addy and send you loads of yucky stuff you would never have need for especially if you are female….wink, wink.

And would you believe I have more news to come….but I have to upload some more photos for that post. Stay tuned.

Blog Update

I’ve updated my blog with a few new pages. The first is about the presentation I give to guilds entitled:

If you would like to book a presentation for your guild please use the contact form on the right to send me an email.

I have also included a “Workshops” page. Right now I am reformatting the workshops I offer so check back often to see the updated list. I can’t wait to share them with you.

What's Coming up on My Schedule

Just a quick post to let you know that I will be speaking to Foothill Quilter’s Guild in Shelby, NC tomorrow night. I’ll be giving my presentation “The Evolution of a Fiber Artist”, a tongue in cheek look at my life as a quilt addict turned fiber artist.

Also this Sat, May 24th, I will be teaching a class “All About Bindings” at Quilter’s Loft in Moorseville for all those who need a refresher on how to put on those pesky bindings.

Keep checking my website RedBarn-Studios to see other classes and workshop I will be offering. Check out the shop’s blog to see other classes they offer.

My First Presentation

Whew! I DID IT!!!!

I gave my first ever guild presentation yesterday to the Moorseville Centerpeice Guild. My presentation “The Evolution of a Fiber Artist: The Life and Times of a Quilt Addict” is a tongue in cheek look at my life as quilt addict turned fiber artist.

My stomach was turning, my head was swimming and my nerves were playing up big time until the moment I stepped in front of the group. I was a member of this guild a few years ago and recognized some faces so it made it much easier to get up there and talk. Also, unbeknowst to me at the time, my year as Program Chair for Charlotte Guild had given me a chance to be at ease in front a group of people.

A couple of good friends came to support me…thanks DeLane and Jean (who, by the way, is having an Open House this Sat celebrating the opening of her new studio space in Lincolnton, Front Porch Studio).

When I start to speak, most people immediately recognize that I am not a local girl (those who know me are smiling now) so it was interesting that after my presentation a few people came up to me and thanked me for giving them some insight on where I was from.

Thanks Sandy for inviting me to speak to your guild. You were a gem yesterday and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Should be a piece-a-cake next time right? ………ha!

I will be listing my presentation schedule on my website as they come up.
