well, it was actually yesterday but we played games all day(snowed in again) and i forgot to post.

so here’s the scenario:  it’s the morning of  1/11/11, the day i celebrate my birth and hubby wakes me up with these words:

“happy birthday honey……guess what, you’re older than me again!

and with that he rolled out of bed to get ready for work.  he has always loved the fact that i am older than him, only by a mere 7 mths mind you.

no worries tho….. august will roll around pretty soon and then it’s my turn (said the spider to the fly…hee hee). The 5 mths we are the same age is torture for him and that’s enough for me.  : ;-)

Today’s My Birthday

\

yeh, yeh, yeh!

\

My birthday comes sooooooo soon after Christmas that it’s almost an afterthought. Well…not anymore. My hubby says birthdays are special so he sets out to have my birthday last at least 5 days.

\

He cooked a wonderful dinner for me and a few of our close friends on Saturday…

\

Mushroom Medley Soup (starter)

\

Orange Glazed Stuffed Cornish Hens &

\

Lemon Herb Stuffed Cornish Hens
\

\

Pesto Risotto

\

Glazed Carrots

\

Cauliflower Au Gratin.

\
What a wonderful meal and to say that we were all “stuffed” (pun intended) by the end is an understatement.
\

\
Then today I hung out with our Pandoras group and Susan baked me a lovely cake. The top of it was covered with lemon curd with cream cheese icing on the sides. Delicee-o ciousness indeed!

Tonight will be a regular dinner but since TODAY\’a0 is my actual birthday, hubby gave me first dibs on what’s for dinner……parsnip soup with a hot, hot, hot Indian curry for the entree.

Birthdays are not so bad after all (she says with a satisfied smile)..

BookMark Notebooks

When I read a book (I’m still into historical English fiction) I inevitably run across some obscure never-heard-of-word I have no clue what the meaning is. Same when I read some of my art books, there’s usually notes I need to make to try to remember a technique or idea for when I need it later as I’m working.

I decided to use my friends as guinea pigs again and give them these little bookmark notebooks, embellished with their initials of course, as small gifts this year (yes I know I am really into the paper thing right now…bear with me okay). Each is  filled with 3 strips of folded paper stitched into a small signature and are 1 1/2″ wide….enough room to write almost anything.

Here are the first batch I came up with. Real cool little gift huh!

Funny story, I was in the bookstore and started talking with a lady next to me in the craft books section and told her about my little book marks (hey Ellen if you’re reading this). She was looking for an idea for a small gift she could give to the people she’s helping and this idea really sunk in with her. Glad I could help and hope they love them too.

I can’t wait to make more of these especially since when you cut paper for journals you end up with leftover strips that would be perfect for this.  No waste here and great way to recycle the extra bits.

BTW, today is my brother’s birthday…the one who was the bane of my existence…back then that is. Today my younger bro is “Cool Uncle Andy” to my kids and the one who we all look to for some sane reality…..when he’ not acting the fool that is (wouldn’t you say Gar?)

Happy Birthday Bro!

See ya next time “In the Hayloft”,

Today I turn 45!

And I am quite happy at the prospect. I have never been a person to worry about my age (in my head I’m still 28 anyway) so to reach this milestone is wonderful.

I believe we expound to much energy in worrying about the number we are and not enough time celebrating the fact that we are still alive and get to do all we do. I am grateful all the time for the little things including the fact that I can still see all the beautiful things this world has to offer, can still walk to where I need to go (even if it’s just to get in my car and drive) and can still hugs those I love

My mother and sisters called me today to wish me Happy Birthday and we have all decided that since we all turn a significant age this year we’ll have to get together at a splendiferous spa to celebrate our wonderful selves.

My older sister is older than me again this year (can’t mention the exact number cause I’ll get in trouble but I know your math is good enough to figure out her significant number…..), my younger sister is 40 and I am 45. This doesn’t happen all the time so we’ll have to take advantage of it. At least that’s what I’m telling the husband

So come celebrate with me and make this a good day for you as well. Tell me what YOU think my sisters and I should do to celebrate our birthdays this year.

Family Art

I had planned to upload pics of my latest project then thought you might enjoy this better. It all started when I said to the kids let’s make birthday cards for Daddy this year, whose birthday was a few days ago. This is what they came up with. The red is by my 15 yrs old…can you tell she is into drama? Here’s the front of the card. And lo and behold, this is the inside of her special card. Her Dad cracked up when he opened it (BTW, Git is a loose English term meaning jerk or sillyhead but in a fun loving way.)

Our 6 yr old loves to colour and draw…right now it’s all about Superheros (that’s his made-up superhero on the front). I speak “Connor” language so translation of the phonetically spelt words is “Daddy I love U (see inside Love) I am happy that you are turning 44″. He had to pause at after he read it too. Ha ha ha ha ha ha…

What a gift…kids!
