etsy treasury

115_2_rich-flameMy Rich Flame hand dye has been included in mojoindigo’s etsy treasury. What a thrill. Check it out here.

Not been selling on etsy for any long length of time and still have to find out about all the thrills, extras and things to do there. Seems like I’m missing out on stuff…sniff sniff.

Maybe I need to schedule in some me time to play .

bronze paper journal

I put a couple of new items in my Etsy shop.

A little while ago I entered an art techniques swap and finally finished making all 121 pages. I thoroughly enjoyed coming up with the technique and…..I went green at the same time!

I used brown paper bags (from Paneras of course) and painted them to look like a metallic paper. At first I was going for leather but…..the paper sorta kinda had a mind of it’s own and turned into a bronze metallic looking paper. I also made silver metallic paper.

Anyway, after much cutting and glueing, I sent off all my 4″x 4″ cards on Sat last and found out that Margie received then okay. Phew! I didn’t fancy making them all again if they got lost on the way.

I had promised to make something with the paper and just finished it….. a “Faux Bronze Journal”

It is filled with 4 signatures of really wonderful paper to write and draw on. I could even see this one being given as a gift to that special fella.

I also finished another one that a young girl would absolutely love. Can ya tell I was in a PINK mood? The closure is a bunch of fabric and trim that I corded on the machine.

I want to try a new binding (these last few have been pamphlet stitched) so the next few journals I make will look a bit different.  Look for their unveiling soon.

A Special Post for Liz

I love to collect all sorts……there really is no rhyme or reason anymore to my collecting.

I take that back……there is one exception……it was the time I went thru the black and white cow thing…..everybody and his uncle and his mama decided to get me a black and white cow, so I have some strange cow related household items that I’ve……put away……for a very long time.

Needless to say I no longer collect black and white cows (ix nay on cow teapot, sugar bowl and creamer….thank goodness). I now just pick up what catches my eye.

So the other day I was in World Market picking up hubby’s digestive biscuits; plain, milk chocolate and dark chocolate, a veddy, veddy English indulgence (and glad now that we have a local source for them) and ya know….you just can’t help whilst you’re there to look around.

I mean really! Step in and out of that store without taking a look-see? PUH LEESE!

So there I am nosing around my favorite part of the store…the KITCHEN aisles (all right already…I know I don’t like to cook but a girl can look can’t she?).

Anyway I’m a-nosing around and I happen upon these cute little spice jars and I stopped…….and stared….and my mind gets-a-going thinking….. how I can use these little gems……mmmmh?

A friend told me about how she uses her spice jars…but only after the spices are gone…and I think to myself why wait for the different spice smells to disappear besides, I would sniffle every time I opened the darned jars.

These jars come in a set of 4 so I bought 3 sets….that’s 12 spice jars for the price of $3.99 a set.

CAN YOU BEAT THAT PRICE?

And here’s the jolt of colour in my studio that I am so excited by.

My Bead Collection!

…some of you will note that I have gone back to the bead soup way of organizing them, What a colour feast for the eyes!!!

…and you want to know the best thing about them……………I can shake them out in the extra large holes at the top of the screw top lid. How darned cool is that!!!!!

bead-jars6 Girl….is….. happy.

It’s the small things that get us to that state of  mind.

See Liz….this one’s for you! Happy Reading.

WIP

I was invited to make a work of art for the Deltas of Charlotte’s 5th Annual Benefit Auction.

The Deltas of Charlotte are part of the national organization, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority that was started by 22 college students at Howard University in 1913.

These twenty-two black women felt a need to “use their collective strengths to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need“.  One of the first things they took part in was the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C. in March, 1913.

A few of the more notable members of this sorority are Shirley Chisholm, the first black female member of Congress, Ruby Dee, the phenomenal Broadway and film actress, Tina Allen, sculptor, painter and winner of the Thurgood Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award,  Brigader General Hazel J. Brown, the first African-American woman general in the U.S. Army and Osceola Macarthy Adams, noted Broadway actress and, more importantly, one of the founding members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Remi Adeniji, thecordinator for the auction, wanted to add a new feature to this year’s event and decided to invite a few local artists to donate works for the silent auction.

With the mission of the Sorority in mind I created a piece I call  “It Takes A Village”.

it-takes-a-villageIt’s not finished yet, I have yet to quilt it, but……the top is done.

As many of you know I love to play with fused shapes and I so loved the simplicity of the shapes that portray the people in this quilt. And I know you can’t help but notice the michievous kids lurking in the back……just like a normal family group.

To me this piece epitomizes the efforts of the founders….that in the end, we are all family and must do what we can for each other whenever we can.

Guild Presentation

class-tote

Sample of My Obsessive Stage

What a great time I had last night!

I gave a presentation to the Cabarras Quilters Guild and had an absolute blast! What a great bunch of ladies and gentleman. It was laughter all the way to the end of the night.

My presentation…”Evolution of a Fiber Artist: The Life and Times of a Quilt Addict” is a very tongue in cheek look at my art journey from guilty quilt addict to fiber artist. Most of the quilters in attendance recognized themselves in the 5 stages of quilt addiction I outlined. Those who didn’t….you know who you are and you need to fess up!

I have to thank Barbara, the guild’s program chair, for her gracious help from beginning to end and also the ladies of this guild for making me feel so very welcome.  we quilters really are a special group of people
